Call To Worship

Lord, I Want To Be A Christian

Kelly Irons

Greeting

Rend your hearts and not your clothing.

Return to the Lord, your God,

For he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and he relents from punishing.

-Joel 2:13

Hymn

I Am Thine, O Lord

Opening Prayer

O God, maker of everything and judge of all that you have made, from the dust of the earth you have formed us and from the dust of death you will raise us up. By the redemptive power of the cross, create in us clean hearts and put within us a new spirit, that we may repent of our sins and lead lives worthy of your calling; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Scripture Lesson

Joel 2:1-2, 12-16

Confession

Gracious God you created us in your divine image, but we would rather make you over in our image, expecting and demanding far less of ourselves. We have preferred our half life to your offer of  transformation. We have ignored Jesus’ teachings, turned from his gracious love and tried to discover meaning for our life apart from our teacher. We covenant now to make amends and undo the harm we have done. We accept your invitation to be remade from the inside out, and to be washed in the forgiveness that you alone can give. Amen.

Pardon

When we return to the Lord with all our hearts, God is gracious and merciful, abounding in steadfast love. Hear the Good News and believe: In Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! Amen.

Hymn

Take Up the Cross

Dismissal With Blessing

Go forth into the world in the strength of God’s mercy to live and to serve in newness of life. May Jesus Christ, the bread of heaven, bless and keep you.

Amen.

May the Lamb of God, who laid down his life for all, graciously smile upon you.

Amen.

May the Lord God order all your days and deeds in peace.

Amen. Thanks be to God.

Please leave in silence with reverence before God
