In the early years, when our young nation was being born a moment happened in Connecticut that speaks to us today. Connecticut was not yet a state and the colonial legislature was in session when a thick darkness blotted out the sunlight. Cries were heard, “It is the day of Judgement! Let us go home and get ready!” But one member of the legislature, an old church deacon, stood up and said, “Brethren, it may the day of Judgement-I do not know. The Lord may come. But when He does, I want Him to find me at my post, doing my duty up to the very last moment. Mr. Speaker, I move that candles be brought in and that we get on with the business of the colony.”

Perhaps in this year of 2020 between a virus and an election that may end up decided in the courts over some peculiar voting issues, we may wonder if “Judgement Day” is near. Perhaps it is – or perhaps it is thousands of years away, only our Lord knows. What we do know is that our nation needs the church to stay at its post and get on with the business of preaching the gospel, loving Jesus and one another. If you watch the news (any station) or get on social media, all you see, for the most part, is anger and division. How does one pastor, one Christian, one church make even a dent in those issues? Well, how did 12 Disciples change the world? They followed Jesus, they shared His story (The Gospel), and they loved one another through the harshness of life. The plan is the same. The “post” is the same. Our “business” is the same. The Bible is the same. Jesus is the same. Do you want to see our Country return to the Lord? Do you want to see our nation heal?  Do you want to see the Church affect the world and not the world affect the church? THEN PRAY. Pick a time EVERY DAY and pray. The truth is the Lord’s church needs to lead a new “Great Awakening” in our land (Revival). Our politicians (both parties) need to be taken to the woodshed and reminded that they were elected not to lust after power but to represent us and to guide our nation to be the best it can be. Both parties need to be reminded of what the late President, John F. Kennedy, wrote about in his book “Profiles in Courage”. It is a book that describes the acts of BRAVERY & INTEGRITY by eight United States Senators (4 from each party), who chose to do what was right for America, in spite of enormous pressure from their political parties to vote the party line. May there be enough prayer warriors in the Lord’s church to go to their battle stations now and pray (Remember the Christian Movie “The War Room”). May there be enough men and women in Washington DC who can become the new “Profile in Courage” congressmen and women and Senators to make a difference. In the name of the Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit.
