Dear Holland’s Family,
The love of Jesus in me greets the love of Jesus in you!
Our sermon series, “The Glory of the Cross,” continues this Sunday around the theme, “The Glory in Jesus’ Arrest.” The Gospel reading is Matthew 26:47-56.
Through this series we have already considered how our Lord’s earthly life glorified the Father and how the Father glorified the Son through many of the major events in Jesus’ life. We have been reminded how we are to glorify God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, in the various passages of our life’s journey. Our remaining topics are: “The Glory in Jesus’ Arrest” (this weekend); “The Glory in Jesus’ Death (April 2); “The Glory in Jesus’ Triumphal Entry” (Palm Sunday, April 9); and, “The Glory in Jesus’ Resurrection” (Easter Day, April 16).
The sermon this week focuses on Judas’ betrayal of Jesus. Judas is one of the most intriguing and enigmatic personalities in all of scripture. While he followed Jesus and listened to the Lord’s teaching for some three years, Judas never learned to apply to his life Jesus’ teaching and counsel. That lesson is that saving power is found in being a willing servant. Jesus not only teaches his followers about servant-hood, he supremely models it for us in his arrest and ultimate death.
